Energy & Society Kit

Students learn to investigate environmental issues related to energy's role in society. This award-winning kit is filled with activities, music, videos, and classroom resources to help you teach about energy.

Developed for both formal and nonformal educators, Energy & Society helps students learn about energy sources and uses. It develops their critical thinking skills to help them make decisions about their personal energy use. In addition to hands-on activities, Energy & Society integrates music and dance to enhance children’s study of energy issues.

Designed for best use with grades 4-8, the kit includes an activity guide, an award-winning Energy & Me CD and dance DVD, and two sets of posters. Six hands-on activities are supplemented by additional resources found in PLT's online energy resource center at www.PLT.org.

 You can choose to use single activities in the guide, or you can use all of the materials as part of a unit. The guide includes background information for educators; correlations to national standards in science, social studies, and English language arts; ideas for action projects and science fair projects; energy-related case studies; a list of energy-related children's literature and other resources; and lyrics to the songs on the Energy & Me CD. The guide’s student energy primer provides more information about specific energy resources, such as fossil fuels, nuclear, biomass, hydropower, solar, and more. It is designed so you can duplicate it for use with your students. To supplement this kit, visit PLT's Energy Resource Center at www.PLT.org for specific connections to STEM, Next Generation Science Standards, and Common Core State Standards, as well as up-to-date information and resources on topics such as "fracking" and climate change, recommendations for children’s books, careers in energy, and more!;
